There are various types of manual therapy, including:
Soft Tissue Mobilization
Rhythmic stretching and deep pressure used to break up fibrous muscle tissue. There are multiple times of soft tissue mobilization physical therapy, but it is widely used for upper, middle, and low back pain.
Joint Mobilization
Passive movement of specific joints using a hands on technique to apply force and direction. This mobilization of joints can be used to treat stiff and painful joints and the nearby muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Joint issues often cause other injuries and ailments, and functional manual therapy to treat these issues can help with further injury prevention.
Ultrasound
Sound waves to generate deep tissue heat. It increases blood flow and helps repair damaged tissue. Ultrasound manual therapy is beneficial for bursitis and tendonitis, muscle strains, tears, and spasms, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, and bone or stress fractures.
Electrical Stimulation
Different types of currents to stimulate nerves in a specific way. Electrical stimulation is not appropriate for everyone, but can be used for a sports, auto accident, and stress injury, and even neurological conditions like a stroke to increase circulation and prevent or reverse muscle atrophy.
Dry Needling
Trigger point dry needling (TDN) is a fast and effective way for PTs to treat pain and dysfunctions in your neuromusculoskeletal system. We use thin filament needles and insert them into trigger points that are found during your evaluation. The immediate effects following TDN are increased range of motion, decreased pain, improved movement, and decreased muscular tightness/restriction. Dr. Kate is highly trained and skilled to provide this service to you.
